[Adorable girl x gloomy, fatherly snake man]
[Fluff-obsessed heroine x hero who has everything except fur]
Through a twist of fate, Gan Xin chose a personal servant named Gu Yi. He was extremely handsome and quick on his feet, if a little cold and gloomy.
She grew more and more accustomed to Gu Yi taking care of her, and came to rely on him completely.
They did have one point of disagreement: she loved fluffy animals and was always petting and cuddling them. Whenever Gu Yi caught her at it, his expression turned truly awful.
At some point, fluffy animals began to disappear from her surroundings, while a little snake appeared outside her bedroom door.
The little snake flicked its tail at her.
Gan Xin was so frightened that she fled on the spot.
The little snake never appeared again.
Until the war between immortals and demons, when the Beast King Teng Snake descended from the sky, fighting off a multitude of foes and protecting the entire Beast Taming Manor.
The Beast King turned into a little snake, and the little snake turned into Gu Yi. He came before her and asked to form a blood pact with her, a person with an intense fear of snakes.
Gan Xin, young miss of the Beast Taming Manor, glanced at her family, whose faces were alight with joy, and nodded, fighting back her fear.
Much later.
Gu Yi returned from outside, carrying an inescapable, icy snake-like aura. A few flecks of blood showed beneath his black cloak.
Gan Xin's nose twitched. She quickly hid behind a pillar and peered out warily.
"Did you go after a beast tamer?" Her eyes reddened. "Didn't you promise me you wouldn't make an enemy of the Beast Taming Manor?"
"..."
"Say something!"
"..."
After a long silence, Gu Yi held out his hand. A sleeping white fluffball lay in his palm.
"I went to catch you a rabbit."
"...Then what about the smell of blood?"
Gu Yi: "You bit me last night."
Gan Xin's face turned red, much to her embarrassment.
Gu Yi beckoned. "Come here."
Gan Xin hesitated before walking over. The closer she came to Gu Yi, the harder it was for him to suppress the curve of his lips. Just as she reached out to touch him, Gu Yi suddenly transformed into a snake.
His tail swayed. His eyes were dark, and his voice was low and coaxing.
"Touch my tail, and I'll let you hold the rabbit."
[Reading guide]
1. 1v1, both virgins. A sweet story with a doted-on heroine, lots of everyday life and introspection. Updates 4-5 times a week.
2. The heroine is very weak at first. Even after she grows, she's just a capable softie, not a powerful heroine in a power fantasy.
3. The hero is very strong and has impeccable husbandly virtue.
4. A man's insecurity is the best dowry.
5. There are no major schemes. Warm daily life, personal growth, and romance. My own brand of fantasy, with chaotic worldbuilding.
----A preview of my upcoming novel, Perching on the Right Branch----
[Marriage before love / regret and reconciliation / possessive love]
When an imperial edict arranging a marriage arrived from above, Bie Jingque, the second daughter of a low-ranking court official, became the bride of the Marquis's heir.
Everyone knew this ill-matched marriage was merely the emperor's way of putting the Marquis's household in its place. She was just a sacrifice in a political struggle.
But it didn't matter.
As long as she could escape her maternal family, she was willing to be that sacrifice.
Beneath her red bridal veil, Bie Jingque sat upright on the edge of the wedding bed.
Her new husband lifted her veil and looked at her with the cold indifference one might show a worthless object.
The word "husband," which Bie Jingque had been about to utter with a hint of anticipation, caught in her throat. She curved her brows into a smile and chose another title instead: "Young Lord."
When the young lord was cold, she was warm, while carefully respecting his boundaries so she wouldn't annoy him.
When he let rumors slander her, she didn't resent him. She handled matters herself.
She heard that he had a beloved first love, yet never showed her displeasure. Instead, she smiled and gave them space to speak alone, while shutting away her own heart whenever it fluttered.
She managed the Marquis's household with such skill that everyone praised her.
But Cen Yu knew his wife wasn't as gentle and devoted to him as she pretended to be.
Yet, knowing that, he still couldn't help being drawn to her and falling into the warmth she offered.
One day after court, Cen Yu took a detour to Mingyue Tower to buy her favorite pastries. By chance, he saw the newly appointed top scholar beneath a pear tree gently brushing a fallen petal from his wife's hair as he said:
"The Marquis's household is on the verge of ruin. He isn't where you belong."
His wife smiled, her brows curved. "A good bird chooses the best tree to nest in."
Cen Yu watched for a long while, then emerged from the side. "My lady."
His wife turned back in a panic, her expression alarmed.
How pitiful, how lovable. Just like always.
Cen Yu's eyes were dark as an abyss. He lifted the pastries in his hand and smiled faintly. "Let's go home."
A good bird chooses its tree, but she clearly didn't care which one she chose.
Then why not cage this little bird in gold?
Even if it bled in his palm, that was better than watching it sing on someone else's shoulder.
