Qiu Ran is the Crown Prince of the Eastern Palace, but she is a woman.
After being trapped by the shackles of her identity for so long, she wants to taste a little romance, too.
But who would be the right person?
After much thought, Qiu Ran decides there is only one man who suits her.
The Marquis Chengwei, Gu Ye, is due to be executed after the autumn harvest.
"Ridiculous."
In the gloomy dungeon, Gu Ye drooped his phoenix eyes and dismissed her nonchalantly.
Qiu Ran lied, saying that if he cooperated, she could get him out of prison once it was done.
Only then did Gu Ye turn his gaze on her, his deep black eyes radiating an intangible menace.
For a while afterward, the clatter of chains could often be heard from one particular cell.
But after some time, Qiu Ran stopped showing up.
The cell fell silent, quiet enough to hear a pin drop.
Qiu Ran had broken her promise. She hadn't kept her word.
Gu Ye sneered, tugged at his chains, and ordered his trusted aide to gather their men and break into the prison that very night.
When Qiu Ran was brought to Gu Ye with a blade held to her, she forced herself to stay calm and smiled gently. "My lord, why go to such lengths? Surely we can talk this over..."
Gu Ye knew that if he revealed the secret that Qiu Ran was a woman, everyone in the Eastern Palace would be doomed, and even the Empress would not escape unscathed.
After a moment's silence, he asked nonchalantly, "Any last words before you die?"
Qiu Ran clutched her belly, frowning and groaning. "The baby just moved."
Gu Ye: "..."
