The Emperor Mistook Me for Someone Who Loved Him

The Xie family has a daughter named Qingwu, praised by everyone for her exceptional beauty. As the Third Prince's consort, she is graceful and dignified in every gesture.

Xie Qingwu is perfectly content with her life as it is. All she needs is to tend her little patch of land and show Pei Shi a little care each day. She never expected that when he ascended the throne, the first imperial edict he would issue would be to demote her to a concubine!

Since you've taken another woman as your empress, don't blame me for giving up my virtuous-wife act!

One wave has barely settled before another rises in the capital:

First, Xie Qingwu refuses to enter the palace. Then she submits a petition for a divorce and demands a division of their marital property.

Palace servants' gossip:

Hasn't His Majesty returned to his former residence several times, only to be turned away by the consort? Going there in the dark of night now will only make him lose face.

Lose face? If he doesn't go now, he may lose her. The consort just took the sleeping-with-the-emperor token and ordered someone to engrave the names of the young men she's close to on it!

Inside the former residence, Xie Qingwu is surrounded by a crowd, enjoying herself immensely. Suddenly, someone pushes open the door, and the room's languorous music comes to an abrupt halt.

Everyone shrinks into a corner, watching the once handsome and calculating emperor. His eyes are full of stubborn resolve as he asks in a low voice, "You once said that the green of the jadeite matched the color of the sky, just as our love would last forever. Do you still remember?"

But the beauty leisurely raises a cup of wine to the emperor, smiles like a flower, and says, "Your Majesty, let me give you another line: My love for you was only an act."
