The arcade was full of noise and visual clutter: the mechanical clatter of pinball machines, dazzling multicolored lights, and the clink of game tokens.
Several claw machines stood in a neat row against the wall. One was packed with a menagerie of stuffed animals: cats, dogs, rabbits, and little elephants. These popular animal designs had been turned into cute plush toys, piled inside the glass enclosure to tempt people into spending a thousand tokens.
No one would have guessed that the plush toys, seemingly lifeless, had all silently looked down on the father and daughter who had just passed by:
