#My new historical romance, The General I Picked Up Became My Widower, is now serializing. A cold, proud man schemes himself into becoming a lovesick househusband | devoted couple, happy ending | peacock-like man × wooden woman. Come on in!
Synopsis:
Jiang Chuyu returned to the capital to escape an arranged marriage, and happened to meet the young general Gu Jinghuai returning victorious at the city gate.
He sat high on his horse, the center of attention, noble beyond compare.
He was the man she had once been promised to.
As it happened, the emperor feared the power of the Gu family and married the impoverished noblewoman Jiang Chuyu to him in accordance with their betrothal.
On their wedding night, Gu Jinghuai was cold and distant. He refused to consummate the marriage and placed a long wooden beam across the middle of the bed to keep them apart.
Knowing he disliked her, Jiang Chuyu never crossed the line, except when she was drunk and clung to him, calling him "Brother Maoxing," and that one time she kissed him when she thought he was dead.
But who could have guessed that after Gu Jinghuai "came back to life," he would tell her:
"I kissed you once, too. Now we're even."
"?!"
Her husband was acting strange.
Later, one night, Gu Jinghuai came home and, without warning, removed the wooden beam and pulled her into his arms.
Jiang Chuyu was startled. "Husband, isn't this inappropriate?"
To her surprise, the usually cold-faced man looked heartbroken. "Why are you being so distant with me, my wife?"
Jiang Chuyu: ?
Only the next day did she learn that he had accidentally injured his head and now remembered them as childhood sweethearts who had grown up together and shared deep affection.
He called her Jiao Jiao again and again, and got jealous over nothing. Jiang Chuyu was certain that this version of him, with his muddled memories, liked her, but she couldn't figure out how the original him felt and didn't dare get too close.
But one day, she couldn't hold back. She rose onto her toes and kissed him on the lips.
Gu Jinghuai froze instantly, his ears turning bright red as he avoided her gaze.
Jiang Chuyu sensed something was wrong. Her face went from red to pale. "Have you gotten your memories back?"
Gu Jinghuai covered the lower half of his face, a suspicious blush spreading from his ears to his neck.
It seemed her plan to play along had been a little risky.

The General I Picked Up Became My Widower
[Cold, proud man schemes himself into becoming a lovesick househusband]
[Devoted couple, happy ending. The heroine is not dead.]
Yuan Xue'an picked up a dying man.
He was born with brown eyes, probably with some foreign blood in his ancestry. He was tall and powerfully built, with strikingly deep-set features.
Taking care of him was quite a challenge, especially when she had to wipe him down. He refused to cooperate and snarled at her like a wolfhound.
But later, after his wounds healed, he changed completely. He wrung out the clothes she washed until they were perfectly dry, and would sometimes hunt game to nourish her. He stayed closer to her than the big yellow dog she raised.
One day, Yuan Xue'an was packing his things when he caught her at it.
The man's beautiful eyes trembled as he grabbed her wrist, looking angry and aggrieved. "You're trying to make me leave? No way!"
The last time he had reacted that way was when she'd accidentally... while wiping him down.
Yuan Xue'an suddenly had a flash of inspiration. Could that be why he was so attached to her?
So she tentatively tried to comfort him:
"Are you still upset that I saw... Don't worry. I've practiced medicine for years. You're not the only man I've seen, and I've seen someone more to my liking..."
The man's expression suddenly turned awful, and he went outside to sulk in the rain. In the dead of night, he came back soaking wet and lay silently beside her bed.
Yuan Xue'an didn't understand why, but he seemed even more clingy. Her heart softened, and in the end she didn't make him leave.
Later, he brought it up again in bed.
The muscles in his body tensed and relaxed, and his expression shifted between dazed and resentful.
"Who do you like more? Who do you like best?"

As the renowned First God of Killing and a general who had crushed the enemy for the Great Sheng, Xie Zhou never imagined he would be framed as a spy and nearly killed by his own side.
The world was vast, but from then on he had no country and no home.
Yet his savior carried the faint, clean scent of medicine, and for some reason he slept especially well beside her bed.
He thought that spending the rest of his life with her would be quite nice. He would accept it even without a proper title.
But one day, she was gone.
He picked up his blades again, avenged her with his own hands, and after returning to service, guarded her hometown.
When noblewomen tried to court him, Xie Zhou turned them down coldly, saying his heart belonged to his deceased wife and he would never marry again.
But what man keeps a woman in mourning? Besides, Xie Zhou had foreign blood and command of an army. The old emperor couldn't sleep easy unless he married a Han woman and fathered an heir.
So when the emperor arranged a marriage for him, Xie Zhou immediately claimed to be ill and refused to cooperate. The old emperor grew suspicious and sent people to investigate in secret, only to discover a hidden passage in the Xie residence.
After the secret guards followed him to the mountain behind the estate, they saw the cold, ruthless God of Killing curled up before a gravestone, drunk and murmuring:
"A Xue, they're all bullying me."
"I raised a stupid dog, and it had a whole litter of puppies. When they're bigger, I'll bring them to show you."
"...I miss you so much."
Note:
1. Character-focused romance, one-on-one sweet story, fictional setting. Please don't take it as historical fact.
2. The heroine is slow to understand her own feelings, but always holds the upper hand. The hero is basically in love with her, and everything is a chaotic one-man show.
3. There is plenty of romantic push and pull early on. The intensity of their feelings rises sharply once the hero figures himself out.
Theme: Stay true to your original intentions, and you'll see things through to the end.
