It happened in an alley. Gu Mingmo stumbled upon Shen Fuxi as a girl was breaking up with him. She was crying her eyes out, while he toyed with a cigarette case, looking utterly bored.
She tried to leave, but he spotted her and blocked her way, leaning in with an amused expression.
"What are you eavesdropping on?"
"Want to take her place?"
He was the music school's golden boy, a willful and reckless playboy, and always the center of attention.
As his landlady and neighbor, Gu Mingmo had always kept her distance from him, until that one time she crossed the line.
Later, he took her along to party with his friends.
After several rounds of drinks, a friend squinted drunkenly at him. "Brother Fuxi, what's that around your neck? A dog collar?"
Another friend punched him in annoyance. "What do you know? It's called a choker."
Shen Fuxi merely curled his lips and said nothing.
Only after the crowd had dispersed did he bend down and lean close to her ear. He hooked a finger under the black leather strap around his neck and asked lazily, "Good student, what would you call this?"
On the sofa, Gu Mingmo lowered her eyes and drank her water, still expressionless, though her ears were burning red.

Gu Mingmo thought that was probably how she felt about Shen Fuxi. She wanted him to keep shining onstage forever, yet hated how he always attracted countless eyes. She wished she could hide him somewhere only she knew about.
"So?"
Shen Fuxi leaned against her desk, lightly swinging her old music player, which had held his songs for years. He grinned, carefree and delighted.
"Moli, why dare to dream but not act?"
