Wild Citrus

Short story, bad ending

There was an evergreen tree in the courtyard, and all of Xu Yanjun's childhood memories were connected to it.

As a young, innocent boy, he stood beneath the tree and asked, “Father, what kind of tree is this?”

Yan Zhen smiled and replied, “It's a sacred tree your father prayed for, to keep you safe.”

Legend has it that deep in the grasslands stands a tree like a trifoliate orange, called Zhiye. Those sheltered by it will enjoy a safe and smooth life.
