Want to Get Rich? Plant More Trees (1980s)

A night of northern winds leaves sand piled against the walls; by morning, even the donkey's on the roof.

For people living in the sandstorm belt, this is just nature's everyday routine.

Then a black sandstorm swept through, and nature switched things up.

The donkey wasn't on the roof. Instead, there was a pretty girl and a chubby little child up there.

Xiang Hailan wound up in the parallel world's far northwest after a sudden landslide.

She had no money and gained a wonderful son.

Her wonderful son was a forest System that had gained sentience.

Her cousin, who'd been caught in the same landslide, was lucky enough to save her suitcase.

While her cousin used the supplies in the suitcase to earn her first pot of gold,

Xiang Hailan was leading the villagers in stabilizing the sand.

While her cousin used that first pot of gold to open the first clothing store in Jincheng,

Xiang Hailan was planting saxaul, hedysarum, and tamarisk on the stabilized dunes.

While her cousin opened the first clothing factory,

Xiang Hailan was growing cistanche, licorice, and desert melons.

While her cousin hooked herself a wealthy overseas Chinese husband,

Xiang Hailan's boyfriend was flying a plane to scatter grass seeds for her.
