When Wen Ruling and Chi Zhan were little, their elders joked that they should be betrothed. From the time Wen Ruling learned to walk until she finished high school, she followed Chi Zhan around, looking forward to the day she would become his girlfriend.
As a teenager, Chi Zhan was unruly and rebellious, and hated anyone trying to keep him in line. Wen Ruling annoyed him more than anyone. It wasn't until he went abroad to study that he finally managed to shake off the clingy girl who was always stuck to him.
Five years later, after returning home, Chi Zhan discovered that the girl he'd once found impossible to shake had grown into a graceful young woman. By coincidence, they were now neighbors, living one floor apart.
One day, he saw Wen Ruling's boyfriend escort her home. In the elevator, Chi Zhan joked, "You used to say all the time that you'd marry me. I was only overseas studying for a few years, and you went and found yourself a boyfriend."
Wen Ruling replied with indignation, "You left for five whole years without sending me a single word, and I'm in the prime of my youth. Why should I wait around for you?"
Chi Zhan had no answer. Yeah, what gave him the right?
The day Chi Zhan found out Wen Ruling had broken up with her boyfriend, he invited a bunch of friends over for a party.
The commotion upstairs sounded like they were tearing the place apart, giving Wen Ruling a headache. She was debating whether to go upstairs and confront Chi Zhan when the doorbell rang.
She opened the door to find her good neighbor leaning against the doorway, his striking face wearing a lazy smile.
"Why are you cooped up at home? Come upstairs and hang out. So what if you broke up? Find someone better and make him regret it."
Wen Ruling glared at Chi Zhan without saying a word.
Chi Zhan suddenly straightened up. "What do you think of me?"
