The Abandoned Childhood Friend

When Shen Zhuo was little, he loved cotton candy. But he never had enough pocket money to buy any, so he could only watch longingly. Fu Xiao would use his own pocket money to buy it for him.

Although Fu Xiao bought cotton candy for Shen Zhuo, he also kept him in check. He never bought him too much, just one stick every few days, because he was afraid Shen Zhuo would eat too much and ruin his teeth.

As they grew up, Shen Zhuo stopped caring much for cotton candy and started liking all kinds of toys, notebooks, and books for fun. Fu Xiao still bought them for him.

Fu Xiao had spoiled Shen Zhuo since childhood, but he had always kept an eye on him, right up until Shen Zhuo grew up. Then he told him, "Shen Zhuo, I'm going back to take the college entrance exam. Take care of yourself."

Because of a household registration issue, Fu Xiao had to go back to take the national college entrance exam. Shen Zhuo was upset, but pretended not to care, patting Fu Xiao on the arm and telling him to hurry up and go.

After Fu Xiao left, Shen Zhuo hid in a corner and cried. Fu Xiao turned back and pulled him into his arms.

"Why are you crying?" Fu Xiao rubbed his cheek, his fingertips glistening. "I'll come back. I'll come back as soon as the exam is over. Then we'll apply to colleges close to each other, preferably the same one, so we can see each other every day."

Shen Zhuo knew that with his grades, getting into the same college as Fu Xiao would be difficult. But he was willing to work hard, and he said yes.

He worked hard for a year and scored above the cutoff for a first-tier university. But Fu Xiao never came back, not even by the day Shen Zhuo had to submit his college applications.

He heard that Fu Xiao had gotten into one of China's top universities, whose cutoff score was far higher than his own. Shen Zhuo sat dazed outside Fu Xiao's childhood home for an entire afternoon...

The clouds in the sky were so beautiful, like the cotton candy Fu Xiao had bought for him when they were children.

Shen Zhuo wanted an explanation from Fu Xiao. If it wasn't a good one, he'd hit him first, then forget about him and live his own life.

Before that, he had to get into Fu Xiao's university.

Note:

The reason the gong didn't come back is that he lost his memory. It's the same old amnesia trope. The early part is childhood sweethearts growing up together, followed by university life. The romance is a slow burn.
