The protagonist is both male and female, and can be either gender! The protagonist's gender depends on the tavern guest's gender. [Important] (The idea of a being that is both male and female is inspired by the strange creatures in The Classic of Mountains and Seas.) Run away if you can't accept this setting! Run! Run!

When the text uses "he" to refer to the protagonist, Chu Lei, it does not specifically mean male.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. The protagonist helps the tavern guests only to eat their souls!

The protagonist does whatever they please and has no capacity for the seven emotions. Don't expect them to suddenly show kindness or sympathy for anyone. They help people conditionally, and all they want to do is eat, eat, eat!

The protagonist appearing in the tavern guests' lives can be understood as weaving dreams for them, reshaping time, or creating a parallel world. Take your pick. After all, life is like a dream, and a dream is life.
