My Consort Stole My Dried Fish (Qing Dynasty)

During the Kangxi era, the Fourth Prince contracted an epidemic. His condition was so severe that he had to stay in bed and recuperate.

In a daze, he discovered that he had become a chubby, adorable British Shorthair blue golden shaded cat, and that Geng, one of the concubines in his household, had taken him in.

Geng Wan soon realized that this cat, despite his plump and cuddly appearance, had a terribly foul temper!

Geng Wan: Good kitty, put on this cute little dress.

The Fourth Prince's fur immediately stood on end. “How dare you, woman! Do you even know who I am? And you expect me to wear women's clothes? I'm not wearing it! I'm not!”

Geng Wan: Piggy, come here and let Auntie give you a kiss.

The Fourth Prince lashed out with all four paws. “Meow! Meow! Meow! Don't call me Piggy! How dare you kiss me, you shameless woman!”

Geng Wan: Sweetie, go to sleep in your basket like a good kitty.

The Fourth Prince bared his teeth. “Hiss! Hiss! Hiss! I'm a noble beile. I want to sleep on the bed!”

After putting up with his antics time and again, Geng Wan finally snapped. “Someone come here! This cat has no idea how to be sweet and considerate. Throw out his dried fish!”

The Fourth Prince panicked at once. “Wah! Wah! Wah! You wicked woman, how dare you cut off my dried fish! Give them back!”

One day, Geng Wan sewed herself a pair of padded cat slippers. She wore them as she happily scampered all over the palace hall.

The Fourth Prince would have none of it. He hugged her soft, fair feet and shielded them beneath himself.

The Fourth Prince: “Say it. I'm warmer than those slippers!”
