After graduating from university, Fu Qianchen became the youngest historian in City A. Jing Mei, who had been his classmate throughout high school, became one of the few female artifact restorers in City B. Jing Mei thought she would never have anything to do with Fu Qianchen again, but one day, they met once more.
"Hello, I'm Fu Qianchen." He was as steady as ever. "I'd like to invite you to join our latest archaeological site project."
After a great deal of hard work, the recent artifact restoration project was finally complete. Jing Mei and Fu Qianchen discussed what to do next in the research institute's lounge. Suddenly, a note appeared in Jing Mei's hand. She opened it and read:
"Artifacts buried deep underground and stained with dust can still blossom into gorgeous, beautiful roses once they see the light of day again."
Jing Mei looked up and met his eyes. He said softly, "Jing Mei, you are the most important person to me." Perhaps he was nervous, or perhaps he was afraid of saying goodbye. His voice was unusually gentle. "So I want to keep you by my side. Would you stay with me and restore more artifacts buried beneath the dust, one by one, to their original state?"
Jing Mei held the note and nodded. "I will."
Later, a reporter asked Jing Mei, "I heard that Teacher Jing was Teacher Fu's classmate for all three years of high school. Did he ever say anything that left a deep impression on you?"
Jing Mei smiled. "Yes! In our first history class after choosing our academic tracks in high school, Teacher Fu answered a question about why he continued to study history. He calmly said it was because history was alive. Those words moved me so much that they made me want to become an artifact restorer even more. I don't want the lives of artifacts to end beneath the dust. I want them to bloom like roses."
The reporter looked at her. "Then, Teacher Jing, you've done it!"
This was her dearest dream.
The steady, devoted historian Fu Qianchen x the gentle, meticulous artifact restorer Jing Mei
"You, too, are a rose growing in the dust."
