After being fired by a shady boss, Lin Yan, one of only three college students in the village, angrily decides to return home and farm.
The tiny plot of land at home is where his dream begins.
On the first day, he turns the soil and hoes the field, pulling up a troublesome weed by the roots.
The next day, the weed has grown even more lushly in the same spot, and several new shoots have sprouted beside it.
Lin Yan gets angry. "Let's see you survive my pesticides and weed killer!"
He doesn't know that the weed is an ancient immortal plant, the only surviving seed after a great war, blown into this remote corner where spiritual energy is scarce.
After finally sprouting, it nearly had its roots severed by a mortal with a hoe.
The immortal plant gets angry too. "What blind human is this? I'll make sure not a single one of your crops yields anything, and that they don't get so much as a grain of fertilizer!"
And so, a strange scene unfolds in the field:
By day, Lin Yan frantically weeds and fertilizes. By night, the immortal plant fights tooth and nail to hog the nutrients and grow like crazy.
Before long, the eggplants and tomatoes in the field look like a joke, while the weed grows lush and leafy, as if silently mocking him.
Lin Yan sighs in defeat. "My luck is terrible. The weather's too dry, the soil's too barren. I guess I'm really better off getting a job."
After a year of battling the college student, the immortal plant is finally tired too.
It decides not to stoop to a mortal's level and reluctantly shares one-thousandth of its spiritual energy with the vegetables nearby.
Then a miracle happens.
The vegetables and fruit Lin Yan grows become exceptionally sweet and fragrant, and can even strengthen the body!
His eyes light up, and his confidence returns. "I knew it! I'm a hundred-year veteran of Stardew Valley. Who could have a better knack for farming than me?"
The spirit plant: "..."

And so the spirit plant settles down in the field.
It takes root and sprouts, bides its time, and flowers and bears fruit, waiting for spiritual qi revival so it can escape into the mountains and take revenge on its old rival.
But, through a moment's carelessness, it is discovered by a passing cultivator.
Lin Yan takes a look in the field. "Where did this thief come from!"
His hoe nearly cracks the young cultivator's skull.
The cultivator shouts, "Friend! Your weed has become a spirit! Run!"
Lin Yan turns around and sees a man with long, flowing hair, an ethereal air, and an extraordinary bearing.
He immediately sets down his hoe, straightens his clothes, and smiles at this man who looks like an immortal banished from heaven. "Why run? Isn't this my wild husband who grew right out of the ground?"
