What if, from the very beginning, Kira had gone to PLANT instead of Heliopolis?

He witnessed Athrun's pain after the Bloody Valentine incident and stayed by his side through his darkest days;

yet, unable to soothe the hatred in Athrun's heart, he could only watch helplessly as his friend joined ZAFT.

In January, C.E. 71, his dear friend received a secret mission and left.

Left behind in PLANT, Kira tossed and turned, inexplicably falling into endless nightmares.

And yet, as people caught up in this struggle, we're like birds in a cage, powerless to do anything.

Probably a short ship fic with a bit of a review-like feel (maybe). It's a nostalgia-fueled passion project for an old series, with the basic premise as described and a reborn protagonist.

Just writing whatever comes to mind while revisiting the official novels. It's been over ten years since I watched SEED, so point out any mistakes you spot.

This was my gateway series and my first ship, so some rose-tinted glasses are only natural. I don't hate any characters.

An ongoing historical BL about two lovers who are both trying to kill each other. There are other stories about lovers who are both trying to kill each other in my collection. This is just my thing.

The Seventeenth Year of the Only King

In the land of Jiuzhou Huaxia, the Luo clan has ruled for three hundred years of peace.

Sadly, their descendants proved unworthy, and in the end they followed the same path as the Ji and Zhou dynasties. They claim the realm is unified, but in truth each region rules itself.

The only slightly better part is that the imperial house still has enough strength to barely rival the lords of the four corners of the realm.

In the 324th year of the Great Luo dynasty, the emperor is to be married, and the vassal kings from all four borders have gathered.

On this trip to the capital, the Southern King, Xu Jiao, brings his heir along, hoping to give his foolish son a taste of the world.

Before setting out, he gives him a special warning: watch what you say and be on your best behavior, or you'll be left in Luojing as a hostage.

Xu Yilu obediently agrees, then immediately gets himself into serious trouble.

If Xu Jiao wouldn't have been so enraged merely because his son fell for a man, it was only because the man was the heir of the Western Kingdom that made it such a grave offense.

His name was Xie Chenqiu, heir to the Western Kingdom, who had fled there after being persecuted by his older brother.

His grandfather, the old Southern King, saw value in him and placed him by the side of Xu Yilu's father, then still a young man.

To Xu Jiao, Xie Chenqiu was like a teacher, a brother, and a friend. Their love was only natural.

But Xie Chenqiu's heart always yearned for his homeland.

Later, unrest broke out in the Western Kingdom, and they had no choice but to ask the heir, who had been in exile for years, to return and take charge.

The only time in his life that the Southern King, Xu Jiao, set aside his pride was to beg his beloved to stay.

Seven years together had made him believe he knew Xie Chenqiu inside and out. In the end, he lost everything.
