Zhongyuan Hexi is a young gentleman living in Namimori. His father is always working overtime, and his gentle, shy stepmother completes their perfectly ordinary family of three. Of course, they didn't originally live in Namimori. Because of his father's job, they move every few years.

After receiving an invitation from his kendo teacher, Mr. Fukuzawa, he and his best friend go to Yokohama. Boom! Yokohama explodes right in front of Hexi.

On the roadside, a cute little boy with auburn hair clings to him. His lips are pale, his eyes are as blue as sapphires, and he sobs in little hiccups. Zhongyuan's heart softens.

He fishes a one-eyed boy, wrapped head to toe in bandages, out of a lake; finds an adorable white cat who transforms into a human child; takes in a taciturn boy whose clothes are always floating around and who hates bathing; welcomes a gentle younger sister who worries about her big brother and takes on the housework whenever he's away; and meets a little boy with wine-red hair who jumps at erasers and shadows on the ground.

As his family grows ever larger, Zhongyuan Hexi becomes a Saniwa and has to add one more rule to his theory of raising kids:
