The Traitor's Descendant (Imperial Examinations)

Shoulders of iron to bear justice, a fierce hand to write fine prose! (From Yang Jisheng of the Ming Dynasty)

In the twelfth year of the Yonghe era, Censor Cheng An submitted a memorial urging the emperor to act, listing twelve crimes committed by Chief Grand Secretary Fei Xuan. Cheng An was then imprisoned and tortured by the Embroidered Uniform Guard. Efforts to save him came to nothing, and three years later he was framed and executed. The entire court mourned him.

Cheng An's wife and children were ambushed on their way into exile, and the whole family perished.

Five years later, a young man named Gu Yue emerged out of nowhere. He first placed first in the provincial examinations, then earned the top score in the palace examination. He entered the court and unleashed a storm of bloodshed.

(This novel was inspired by the story of Yang Jisheng, a famous minister of the Ming Dynasty.)
