Uncanny

Zhou Xun had a strange quirk.

He had nightmares every night. The setting and identity he took on changed each time, and all sorts of strange people would mutter about things like infinite-loop worlds and NPCs.

Zhou Xun didn't care about any of that. He just wanted to finish his missions and put an end to these absurd dreams as soon as possible. After all, he was a corporate drone who had to be at work by eight in the morning.

Then, one day, as he woke from a nightmare and headed to work, he suddenly realized something terrifying...

Why did he go to work every day, yet never get paid?

He'd been working for other people for free all along. How terrifying!
