The Lucky Carp Is the Darling of the Monster Administration

Becoming a civil servant at the Bureau of Demon Affairs is the dream of most demons.

The pay is high, the benefits are great, and the job comes with status.

But competition for civil service jobs in the demon world is no less fierce than in the human world. If anything, it's even more cutthroat.

Aside from naturally powerful demons with distinguished origins, who are recruited directly into the Bureau of Demon Affairs, demons who pass the exam are either exceptionally gifted or hardworking to an extreme.

Yao Yu is none of the above: ordinary origins, average talent, and practically no work ethic.

Yet unlike the tryhards who only get in after two or three attempts, he breezes into the Bureau on his first try.

Yao Yu is a koi carp spirit. His abilities are ordinary, but his luck is extraordinary. This unusual ability catches the higher-ups' attention as soon as he joins the Bureau. Despite being a total weakling, he's assigned as partner to a super-big shot...

The phoenix represents good fortune, but Ji Yao is a phoenix who has lost his auspicious aura. He's incredibly powerful, but comes with a built-in bad-luck debuff...

Ji Yao: My car gets flat tires, my navigation ends at the ocean, delivery riders are never around, and when I buy instant noodles, the seasoning packet is always missing. But I'm a powerhouse. I don't need a partner to hunt demons and slay ghosts.

Yao Yu: Oh.

Ji Yao: ...I take it back. This is great.

Everyone at the Bureau of Demon Affairs: Rub Yao Yu for good luck. May all my bad luck disappear.
