Gathering Hibiscus

A story about a silly girl with a clever streak.

Zhou Fu has come of age.

Her father's ambition has never been a secret. He uses his daughters' marriages as stepping stones to climb higher.

Now it's her turn.

The second son of the Yunzhou Prefect is cruel and violent, with the souls of several beauties on his hands. He took a liking to her long ago, and he and her father have reached an understanding.

Zhou Fu doesn't want to marry him, but she doesn't dare refuse.

-

The torrential rain shows no sign of stopping, and the canal embankments around Yunzhou are on the verge of collapse. The Third Prince arrives by imperial command to clear the waterways, shore up the embankments, and calm the people.

As the situation gradually stabilizes, the Emperor is delighted and rewards the Third Prince and the officials of Yunzhou.

Before the Third Prince departs, the Yunzhou Prefect hosts a banquet in his honor.

-

A rose-red sedan chair enters through a side gate, carrying Zhou Fu to the second son's residence.

Faint music drifts over. She pushes open the lattice window and gazes at the treetops melting into the dark, her cold fingertips repeatedly tracing the crescent-shaped marks her nails have made in her palm.

"I want to see him."

Beneath the moon, the windless shadows of the trees sway.

-

He could easily see through her clumsy schemes, yet he still fell deeply into them.
