So does the Soul Society have no concept of laying the dead to rest?
Unohana Retsu, originally known as Unohana Yachiru, was the first captain of the eleventh division and later captain of the fourth division. Now a sinner in Hell, she bears the title "Death Sword." She is a ruthless combat maniac who chose to train as a healer so that she could enjoy fighting to the fullest, given how powerful she is.
Unohana Retsu thought life after death would be dull, with nothing to do but eat, sleep, and beat up Pineapple*, until the Soul Society came knocking again.
Different worlds are merging, and the Soul Society needs information about them. But the Shinigami it sent out have gone missing one by one.
They thought of the sinners.
Sinners are forever bound by the chains of Hell. In other words, they can always find their way back to Hell.
"I'm only a healer."
"When it comes to fighting, please don't disappoint me."
TIPS:
1. *Pineapple refers to Szayelaporro. Every time he shows up in the Hell chapter, he gets beaten up. If you know him, you'll want to say, "Serves him right."
2. My take on a berserker healer: if you kill all the enemies, you don't have to heal your teammates.
3. Shoko will probably become a combat healer too. If you can't accept that, you'd better run.
4. There's little information about Hanae, so most of her characterization is my own. The character belongs to Kubo, the out-of-character writing is mine.
5. The love interest is the only man who can please Hanae, but he appears very little, only in one or two small worlds and during the merging of the worlds at the end.
