Lin Wuyao has trouble making choices, and often decides things by spinning a wheel. So when the System tells her to spin one too, she says, "No sweat."
Until a prompt appears before her:
[H: An unruly, proud young general, naturally arrogant and haughty, but exceptionally good to you.]
Lin Wuyao slowly types a question mark.
This is a place rich in family and friendship, but with very little romance. Lin Wuyao's mission is to make people believe in love. And so her partner is this young general.
Though their relationship begins with a gap of a hundred thousand miles between them, fortunately, there is such a thing as a childhood betrothal.
After a mix-up at the start, the pair, who can't stand each other, each raise a ladle of wine to toast this farcical marriage. They look less like a bride and groom than sworn brothers. Then they agree on three rules:
First, divide the room with a line, and sleep in separate beds.
Second, make up as soon as they leave the room, and act like a loving couple who never doubt each other.
Third, give each other plenty of space and don't interfere in one another's affairs.
Later, Lin Wuyao learns she can choose between feelings and a relationship. As long as the relationship remains intact, she can keep coasting along. Thinking that constantly maintaining her persona and acting opposite him is exhausting, she starts hoping the young general will hurry off to the border.
At last, the general picks up his bags and prepares to leave on a long journey. Lin Wuyao wipes at nonexistent tears at the corner of her mouth. "Safe travels, husband..."
Once he disappears into the courtyard, her brows lift in delight. Finally, he's gone!
But when she turns, she runs right into his amused, smiling eyes.
The young general naturally takes her hand. "It seems I forgot something. I came back to look for it, and it turns out I was right."
Lin Wuyao looks around. "What did you forget?"
He lifts her chin and turns her face toward him. "Can't you figure it out, my lady?"
Only then does she realize that the young general seems to be making fewer trips to the southern frontier. Instead, he often comes home, and seems especially fond of visiting her room.
The young man, whose heart and body have both been stolen, struts before her like a peacock showing off its feathers. She thinks she's the one tempting him at every turn, never realizing he has been more than happy to play along, just waiting for the day their pretend romance becomes real.
