In the desolate Gobi, a black off-road vehicle raced through the yellow sands. Cheng Zhaoye planned to cross this dangerous, uninhabited region before nightfall.

He slammed on the brakes. Looking at the woman who had suddenly darted out in front of him, his unruly eyes flared with anger. “Do you have a death wish?”

The woman leaned against the car window and slowly lifted her face. She was beautiful and cool, but looked disheveled.

“Help me.”

No one came here. If he did not help her, she would probably be torn apart by wolves when night fell. Cheng Zhaoye decided to show her some kindness.

Once inside, the woman pressed a sharp knife against his waist, her expression vicious. “Drive faster, or I’ll kill you.”

A brutal murder sent shockwaves through the entire city. The police investigated and quickly found the killer. At the trial, Cheng Zhaoye attended as the lead investigator. There was eyewitness identification, the evidence was complete, and the chain of clues was clear. Everything seemed set in stone.

But the defense lawyer’s arrival soon turned everything upside down.

She wore a black business suit, her wavy hair tied back in a ponytail, confident and proud.

“My name is Gu Shao. I will be entering a plea of

not guilty on behalf of my client.”
