Forgetting the River of Waves

Liu Xiyue and Xie Lanchuan grew up together. They had spent twenty-three years of their lives side by side, inseparable for all twenty-three of them.

Everyone in their circle knew Liu Xiyue was Xie Lanchuan's precious darling. No one was allowed to insult her or lay a finger on her.

When a car accident struck without warning, Xie Lanchuan did exactly what everyone expected: he risked his life to shield her. Liu Xiyue was unharmed, while Xie Lanchuan ended up in the ICU.

The good news was that Xie Lanchuan's life was out of danger. The bad news was that his frontal lobe had been damaged. He still had his memories, but he could no longer feel emotions.

Including his love for Liu Xiyue.

He was a good man. After being discharged, he tried his best to treat her as well as ever, like he was carrying out a task. But they were both exhausted.

A year passed, and he began to grow cold and distant. "I can't keep holding you back like this. You should find someone who truly loves you."

Instead of staying by his side, always quietly heartbroken.

Someone who truly loved her?

Who could there be besides him?

She said, "I don't care."

"But I do," he said softly.

Later, she fell and scraped her knees bloody. She called him, crying and asking him to come get her, just as she always had. He never came. By the time the blood had dried and dawn broke, she had made up her mind to give up and leave the country.

Xie Lanchuan thought things would simply carry on like that. But when she took someone else's hand, why did his heart hurt so much?

And so the two went their separate ways.

Liu Xiyue returned to the country and went on a work trip to the mountains without telling him. When she came back and was about to leave again, she didn't tell him that either.

He was the young master of the Xie family and its heir. He couldn't leave Bincheng. So she went far away, to the mountains in the south, cutting off any chance of crossing paths.

With leaves rustling in the breeze and students all around her, she felt she could spend the rest of her life there.

Until one day, she fainted and was taken back to Bincheng.

And saw him again.
