Donggu Cang is a detective who's rotten to the core.
He thought he'd go on being this rotten forever, drinking himself to death in his office until the vultures circling him picked his corpse clean.
Until one day, while he was drinking himself half to death in his office, some idiot cultist's sacrificial ritual sent him to another world.
Donggu Cang: Nice work, but don't let it happen again. (Pulls the safety off with a blank expression.)
After a long string of events, he found the culprit and put a bullet in the idiot, sending him to meet his lord. Donggu Cang didn't try to find a way back to his own world. Instead, he chose to keep coasting through life.
He didn't ask for much. Just staying alive was enough.
Of course, dying wouldn't be a big deal either. He'd make do.
Looking at this peaceful new world, Donggu Cang thought he might just enjoy a relatively pleasant stretch of life.
But things didn't go as planned.
One day, while drinking and smoking, the police showed up at his door with a job offer as a consultant.
He looked at the generous salary and swallowed the refusal he'd been about to give.
Not bad. He could use that money to play some pinball.
-- Then, in less than half a year, his resignation letter was rejected again and again.
Looking at the mountain of cases, Donggu Cang wanted nothing more than to beat up the version of himself who'd been blinded by money.
Damn it!! Are these damned detectives the servants of some Great Old One?! Why does everyone die wherever they go?!
He wanted to quit!!!!
[An RPG-style story. The protagonist has a cheat, because in a Lovecraftian world, investigators without one would have already met a heroic end. At first glance, this cheat seems useful, but on closer inspection, it's kind of weak.]
Theme: The hymn of humanity is a hymn of courage
