As the emperor's youngest son, the young prince was peerlessly handsome and charming, adored by everyone.
The emperor arranged his marriage to the granddaughter of a Grand Secretary.
Word had it that the Grand Secretary's granddaughter had been frail and sickly since childhood, so she was raised among the common folk in the mountains.
The young prince had always detested delicate, sickly women like that. But this time, the emperor was firm, and when the young prince failed to refuse the marriage, he ran away in a fit of anger.
While traveling the world, the young prince found himself in grave danger, only to be saved by a chivalrous swordswoman.
With bright eyes and pearly teeth, a Bright Moon Saber on her back, and formidable martial arts skills, she descended from the sky like a deity.
The young prince and the swordswoman traveled together. They braved dangerous lairs, caught thieves and killed bandits, robbed the rich to help the poor, and shared wine and laughter.
For the first time, the young prince fell in love. Before he knew it, the swordswoman filled both his thoughts and his heart.
Then he learned that she had been roaming the martial world to hunt down her runaway fiance.
The young prince felt awful. "Are you going to drag him back and marry him?"
"There are plenty of men in the world." The swordswoman twirled a throwing knife on her fingertip. "Anyone who abandons me is gone for good. I'm only tracking him down for fun, since I have nothing better to do."
The young prince brightened at her words, then blushed to the tips of his ears. "Once I've taken care of things at home, there's something I want to tell you."
The swordswoman smiled. "Sure. I'll be all ears then."
The young prince hurried back to the capital and knelt in the palace for three days and nights, finally securing a letter annulling the engagement.
The Grand Secretary's granddaughter came out in person to accept it.
"Once I accept this letter, there will be no going back. Thank you, Young Prince, for choosing not to marry me."
The young prince stared at the Grand Secretary's granddaughter, whose face was exactly like the swordswoman's, and was struck dumb with shock.
Later, word spread throughout the capital: the young prince was kneeling again.
This time, he was kneeling outside the Grand Secretary's residence.
[A sudden burst of inspiration. It might be a short, sweet story,
or it might turn into something else. We'll see when I start writing.
Please add it to your reading list. Thank you!]
