Yun Jiaoyue was born into a family of scholars. Gentle and composed, with an oval face and phoenix eyes, she was cool and ethereal, as lovely as the moon among the clouds.
From childhood to adulthood, she had never done anything outrageous. The only time she ever let loose was when she learned her fiancé had cheated: she got drunk late one night and woke up in a room with a strange man.
The man had broad shoulders and a slim waist, with impossibly perfect proportions. His features even bore some resemblance to her fiancé's.
In her addled state, Yun Jiaoyue asked the man to pretend to be her boyfriend.
In front of both families' elders, Yun Jiaoyue, who had always been fiercely proud, calmly announced, "I was the one who fell out of love first. I'm the one who wants to call off the engagement."
Her fiancé turned pale, unable to believe that he had been cheated on instead.

A week later, Yun Jiaoyue and Lu Jinghuai got their marriage certificate.
Yun Jiaoyue had no need for romance. She married only to follow convention and fulfill the elders' wishes.
Lu Jinghuai felt the same way.
They laid down three rules and began a marriage in name only.
A month later, Yun Jiaoyue started to feel that something was a little off.
Two months later, the situation seemed to be getting out of hand.
Three months later, Yun Jiaoyue brushed away the man's hand resting on her lower back and scolded him between gasps, "Lu Jinghuai, I think you're crossing the line!"
Lu Jinghuai smiled and rubbed her earlobe. "Only just noticed?"
