My next novel, When the Capital's Zen Prince Meets the Northeast's Eldest Son, is a contract-marriage-to-love comedy. The blurb is up. Please add it to your reading list!
Hardworking career-driven shou x tsundere, sharp-tongued beauty gong
He Huan, a washed-up nobody, transmigrated into a book, becoming an unknown paparazzo in an entertainment-industry novel.
After transmigrating, He Huan found himself face-to-face with the male lead, top-tier star Gu Rui, who had caught him following and photographing him red-handed. He Huan was completely baffled.
Gu Rui: "Didn't I tell you? There's no way I'll get back together with you."
He Huan: ???
Only then did He Huan suddenly remember that he'd transmigrated into a danmei novel set in the entertainment industry.
The paparazzo had always admired Gu Rui when they were young. By chance, the two had gotten together for three days, but then Gu Rui dumped him because of his bad behavior.
This time, He Huan planned to use his paparazzo body to break into the entertainment industry and leave their past and all its troubles behind.
Why photograph a top-tier star when he could become one himself?
So that very day, a post appeared on a secondhand marketplace: Gu Rui merchandise, all at a low price.
He Huan's identity as a paparazzo and Gu Rui's sasaeng fan was maliciously exposed, leading to a massive wave of online hate.
Ding dong!
Gu Rui, who rarely posted online, showed up: "He Huan and I were classmates in high school and are good friends. Thank you for your concern."
He Huan: A denial that sounds like a lie???
When the Capital's Zen Prince Meets the Northeast's Eldest Son
Cool, discerning, brilliant, sharp-tongued shou x big, rough country bumpkin, utterly devoted to his wife gong
Pei Yanchi, an outstanding finance graduate from C University, worked at a banking and insurance regulator. After working overtime to the point of exhaustion, he suddenly died. When he woke up, he found himself transformed into the cool Zen prince of the capital in a trashy rich-family novel.
The Zen prince had a hard life: people coveted his inheritance, he was used as a pawn in a marriage alliance, and he met a tragic end.
Pei Yanchi: "Hold on. What Zen prince? I'm a Communist Party member! And another thing, why am I getting married right at the start of the story?!"
When the untouchable flower of the capital meets a wild wolf from the Northeast
He burns incense and copies scriptures. The other grills meat and drinks.
He fights with business deals. The other gets physical.
A match made in heaven! A match made in heaven!
Zeng Xiaoye, aka a real Northeast man, had always looked down on that stall owner in Panjiayuan who carried prayer beads and talked like a scholar. And now he was supposed to marry the guy?
In this modern socialist society, who'd dare arrange a marriage for someone else?
What? His late grandfather arranged it? Fine, he'd put up with it.
Pei Yanchi looked at Zeng Xiaoye: A Northeast gold digger.
Zeng Xiaoye looked at Pei Yanchi: A Panjiayuan stall owner.
Before the wedding:
Zeng Xiaoye: "Could you buy less of that incense? The whole place is full of smoke! People will think this is the Peach Banquet!"
Pei Yanchi: "Don't like it? Then you can live somewhere else."
Zeng Xiaoye: "Fine, I will! Give me my pillow and quilt! I'll sleep in the spare bedroom!"
Pei Yanchi: ...I meant you could move out of this house.
After the wedding:
Zeng Xiaoye: "Honey! What are you standing around for? Let's go home and grill some meat!"
Pei Yanchi: "Call me honey on the street one more time and I'll knock your teeth out."
Zeng Xiaoye, grinning: "Great, you can put them back in for me."
Pei Yanchi: ...
Bonus scene:
Pei Yanchi wore a moon-white robe and held a string of agarwood prayer beads. His skin was pale, and his expression detached. "Here's the agreement. Sign it. And don't forget, this is a marriage of convenience. We should keep our distance in our daily lives."
Zeng Xiaoye grabbed it and skimmed through. "What kind of nonsense is this? It's all punctuation marks. Are you hungry? What do you want for dinner?"
Pei Yanchi silently watched Zeng Xiaoye crumple the agreement into a ball. "...Braised ribs with green beans."
Zeng Xiaoye: "Sure. Want to watch My Own Swordsman again?"
The prayer beads in Pei Yanchi's hand clicked sharply. "...Sure."
Wow, wow, wow. Life sure is weird, weird, weird.
Bonus scene 2:
Zeng Xiaoye expressionlessly unwound the blood-soaked bandages wrapped around his palm, lowering his eyes to look at the person lying nearly unconscious on the ground. "Still got the nerve?"
The bruised and battered scapegoat begged for mercy. "No! I won't do it again, Brother Ye!"
"You think you can call me Brother Ye? That's a privilege reserved for my wife!"
Scapegoat: @?! Is this guy seriously a lovesick fool?!
Zeng Xiaoye tidied himself up and applied some scented balm before going over to Pei Yanchi. "Quit chanting, you little tyrant. Your lips are getting worn thin. Take a break! I've already beaten the guy flat!"
Bonus scene 3:
Zeng Xiaoye squatted on the ground and gazed up at Pei Yanchi. "Honey, why are you always chanting scriptures?"
Pei Yanchi raised his lashes slightly and planted a foot on Zeng Xiaoye's shoulder. "Because I'm sick."
Zeng Xiaoye grabbed Pei Yanchi by the ankle. "What?! If you're sick, let's go to the hospital!"
Pei Yanchi: "...I have a very great illness."
Zeng Xiaoye: "Great? How can an illness be great?"
Later, when Zeng Xiaoye finally learned the truth, he grinned from ear to ear, savoring it to his heart's content. "Great. That's really great!"
Reader's note:
1. This is the author's stress-relief story after a crisis of faith. It won't be long. It's a nonsensical comedy, so don't think too hard.
2. Two powerful characters pretending to be something they're not in their everyday life (the Zen prince: I'm too fragile to care for myself; the eldest son: I don't know anything). The shou has the greatest illness of all.
3. The original story's plot falls apart so badly even its own mother wouldn't recognize it. There is no logic.
4. There will be lots of Northeast dialect. I'll add notes for especially unusual expressions, like this.
5. This is just for fun, with no bad intentions. I just want to have a good time.
6. If you come across this, please add it to your reading list.
Premise: Work hard and persevere. May we never lose the courage to start over.
I found that the number of words is so perfect, even one more word and one less word is not enough.
Finished spreading flowers!!!!!!
Woohoo! It's over!
Congratulations to the big duck^ω^
