The Ancient Merfolk

After Lu Jiujiu is hit by a car, she transmigrates to an ancient beastfolk world and becomes a bony, soot-black mermaid.

Wait, you call this thing a mermaid?!

Lu Jiujiu stares blankly at her skinny, black, shriveled body.

Maybe she's not a mermaid beastfolk at all, but a lump of coal that gained sentience.

Before she can even mourn her situation, she's utterly shocked by her surroundings.

The beastfolk tribes of this era are still living before the Stone Age, and all they eat is roast meat and wild fruit. Should she be grateful that beastfolk are so physically robust they don't have to worry about constipation?

They have abundant resources, but no idea how to use them.

Lu Jiujiu sighs, then gets to work finding food, preparing meals, locating resources, and building up the tribe.

She turns her tribe into a place everyone far and wide longs to visit.

As time passes, she finally comes to accept her new appearance. But then her father and mother tell her it's time to return to her clan's homeland and undergo the coming-of-age rite, where she'll transform into an adult mermaid.

She asks her mother, "When I become an adult mermaid, can I be as pretty as you?"

Her mother strokes her head. "Jiu, you'll be even prettier than me."

Only then does Lu Jiujiu learn that mermaid beastfolk all look like her before they undergo the coming-of-age rite, as a form of self-protection.

Mermaid children have almost no fighting ability, so having an exceptionally beautiful appearance wouldn't necessarily be a good thing.

Only after mermaid beastfolk come of age and undergo the rite do they transform into stunning, bewitching beauties.

Adult mermaids are practically invincible in the sea, and on land, too.

So what are we waiting for?! Let's go right now. I won't waste a single moment!
