He lifted the ultimate trophy on the GFG finals stage, while she sat disappointed by the floor-to-ceiling window, wrapped in a blanket. She gazed up at the thick clouds, but the aurora never came.

Before the team returned home, the players had five days of free time to explore. The team manager suggested a trip to Oslo, but Yu Wang wasn't interested and chose to stay in Bergen.

Another snowy night.

At a pub, Yu Wang had trouble ordering because his translation device had malfunctioned.

A Chinese girl at the next table shared her table with him and fluently solved all his problems in English.

When he thanked her, she asked,

"Are you traveling? If you're here alone, would you like to go north to Trondheim together for a few days? I want to book a two-person tour, but I can't find anyone at the last minute." She was rather outgoing.

It was the northernmost city in Norway, much farther away than Oslo, where the team manager was going.

Yu Wang hated trouble most of all, and liked rushing around even less.

"Sorry, no," he declined.

Fu Enxi smiled and shook her head, graciously saying, "That's okay."

As he was leaving after his meal, he noticed a number of white men eyeing the girl. They seemed drawn to her beauty, and when they saw him leave alone, some looked ready to approach and hit on her.

Back at the hotel, Yu Wang couldn't sleep, and he couldn't focus on his game either. After a long silence and a moment's hesitation, he got up, put his black padded coat back on, and hurried out.

Snow drifted through the streets. She was just coming out of the pub, with those ill-intentioned white men following behind her.

Yu Wang stepped forward, putting himself between them and her.

He asked, "Trondheim. Want to go together?"

Fu Enxi froze for a moment, then smiled brightly. "Sure, as long as you're not afraid I'm a bad person."

Yu Wang smiled, too. "You'd better not be afraid of me."

Fu Enxi thought it would be a brief, unfulfilled crush that would come to nothing.

She had no idea that during the six months they were apart, he flew to Bergen countless times in the few breaks he got from grueling training.
