[Naruto | NaruSasu] Like a Blade Cutting Through Water

In this darkness, with frost covering the earth, nothing grows on the cracked, barren ice plains. Snow falling into life pierces my rusted lungs, bringing a bone-deep, near-silent chill.

The road ahead is dim, winding, and long. Perhaps I will never find a place to call home, but I will not abandon this broken world, and I will no longer let myself drift wherever the current takes me.

Because I am no longer alone.

I want to share our smallness and our pain with him.

I want to tell him, thank you for coming into my world.

He and I are like water cut by a blade: in the end, we cannot be separated.

[Reader's Guide]

1. Modern AU, Naruto/Sasuke pairing, third-person narration. Happy ending, focused on their bond. Naruto is an elementary school student with a mysterious background, while Sasuke is a member of a police department's investigative division.

2. The ninja world is too hard to handle, so switching to an AU is my last stand. This story also incorporates a lot of my thoughts on Naruto and Sasuke's relationship in the original. But as I wrote, it somehow went from everyday life to a war of blood, fire, and smoke?

3. The backgrounds of many characters are left vague, so feel free to imagine and speculate to your heart's content, www.

Theme: The highest form of human emotion is a bond.
