The Arrogant Consort Only Wants a Laboratory

On Shen Lingyi's birthday, Emperor Yongchang asked her what she wanted.

The other consorts all blushed shyly and coyly, asking only for the emperor to visit them more often.

She was much more straightforward. Leaning against a large bolster, her eyes lit up as she said she wanted an ocean-going fleet.

Emperor Yongchang: I must have misheard. What did you say you wanted?

"The world is so vast. Someone has to go and see it."

And see whether the neighboring countries had developed cannons yet.

On the seventh day of the seventh month, at the Hall of Eternal Life, when lovers should have been whispering sweet nothings, Emperor Yongchang suddenly said, "Whatever you want, I will grant it."

As soon as he said it, he froze. Did she want the empress's throne, or the position of crown prince?

Shen Lingyi perked up. Her chance had come. "I want a laboratory."

Emperor Yongchang: I was getting ahead of myself.

Space is all directions, while time is all that came before and all that will come after.

At that moment, in her burning gaze, he saw:

A sea of stars, the universe in every direction.

Shen Lingyi: Clear-eyed national treasure of a scientist

Emperor Yongchang: A harsh and ungrateful emperor for the ages
