After he falls for her, no matter how obsessive or crazy he gets, he won't turn dark or imprison her. I've always believed that if you love someone, you should respect her wishes.

As a feel-good cultivation novel built around a comeback, the protagonist has to suffer enough early on for the later turnaround to feel satisfying.
