As a professional villain, Jiang Xian has always helped the protagonists level up without a shred of emotion.
When the Immortal Alliance elects its elders, his junior disciple isn't qualified, so Jiang Xian deliberately commits a grave offense and gets expelled from the mountain.
The sect of a heaven's favored genius is destroyed. Jiang Xian takes him back to the Demon Cult's lair, pretends to force him into a relationship, and reveals his own weakness along the way.
The young protagonist, sold into slavery to the Demon Cult, is relentlessly bullied. By day, Jiang Xian raises the protagonist's hatred to the max. By night, he puts on a secret identity and becomes a cold-faced but warm-hearted guide, teaching the boy, answering his questions, treating his wounds, and bringing him medicine.
In the end, the junior disciple becomes a pillar of the Immortal Alliance; the heaven's favored genius restores his sect; and the young protagonist rises step by step to become the greatest under heaven. His first step is to destroy Jiang Xian's spiritual core and kill the Demon Lord.
When Jiang Xian wakes again, he has unexpectedly been reborn in the body of a low-ranking disciple from a sect where everyone can bully him.
The people who once avoided him now cling to him one by one.
Junior disciple: Senior brother, I've been looking for you for so long. You came back, so why didn't you come find me?
The heaven's favored genius points at the pretty young man beside Jiang Xian, demanding an explanation: "My lord, you kept saying you loved only me. Who is he?!"
Oh, he's the original owner's betrothed Dao companion.
Pretty boy: Husband, say something~
Jiang Xian: Be quiet first.
The pretty boy follows him everywhere. His eyes are always fixed on Jiang Xian. He's sweet and innocent.
In the middle of the night, the pretty boy pulls him into his arms: "Master, cuddle me."
Only then does Jiang Xian remember that this little brat called him "Master" in the exact same sweet, bleating voice when he destroyed his spiritual core in his previous life.
A shou who pretends to be proper but gets tripped up by his own schemes x a gong who acts like a clown and takes advantage of the situation
Two cunning players putting on an act; equally matched
P.S.
1. The shou's death was a misunderstanding. The gong didn't kill him. He fakes his death at the start. Flashbacks are interspersed throughout, and the story is a slow burn at first. The gong appears in Chapter 12. If you want to see the couple being affectionate, you can skip ahead.
2. The gong is a drama queen: a mad demon to the outside world, and a clingy sweetheart in private.
