[Cold, aloof, high-and-mighty male lead X gentle, soft-hearted girl who grows up / foster-family romance]
That year, during a heavy snowfall, a sweet, shy little girl arrived at the Shen family's home in the capital. The Shens dealt in jade. Tiny and quiet, she followed the young master, Shen Di'an, everywhere.
Someone pointed at her and asked, "Who's that?"
Shen Di'an scoffed. "Wen Sui. She came here with her brother to freeload. She's such a nuisance."
"Only my uncle spoils her."
-
When they met again, Wen Sui had returned from overseas as a renowned astronomer.
At their class reunion, a drunk and resentful Shen Di'an cornered her.
"Are you really still holding a grudge? You won't give me a chance? Have I ever picked on you without apologizing?"
Wen Sui pressed her lips into a smile and lightly touched the star-shaped diamond ring on her middle finger without saying a word.
All she remembered was that when Shen Di'an had caused her to have an allergic reaction and faint, another man had stayed by her side at the hospital all night. His silhouette beneath the lights was refined and distant, yet early the next morning, he gently stroked her swollen, unsightly face and comforted her helplessly:
"Sui Sui is very pretty."
That was the secret she had hidden in her diary, pouring every bit of a young girl's heart into it.
He was the man she had secretly loved for six years.
She called him "Uncle."
-
Wen Sui once thought Shen Moheng was a ceaseless wind blowing along the ocean shore, or northern snow that could never be held in her hands.
Only later did she realize he was the lazy, humid night at the end of spring in Nancheng, and the constant warmth that kissed her to sleep.
[Reader's Guide]
An eight-year age gap. The male lead, Shen Moheng, is the female lead's uncle. She is his foster child. They are not related by blood, and there is no romance while she is underage.
The female lead grows over the course of the story. She's sweet and soft early on, and the male lead dotes on her.
One-on-one romance, both each other's first love, both virgins
My next novel will be Wild Winds Know Me, originally titled Spoiled Little Fox. It will launch on 2025/10/02. Please add it to your reading list, mwah!
Shu Li lived a perfectly ordinary life for fifteen years. During the year she was fostered by the Cheng family in the capital, she did two outrageous things.
First, as a fan, she fell for an unattainable male celebrity.
Second, as a foster child, she fell for her foster family's "older brother."
They were the same person. His name was Cheng Fengzhi. Back then he wasn't famous. When she fainted during military training, he bought out every cup of milk tea on the street to keep her quiet. On deep summer nights, he also ran hand in hand with her.
He taught her, "Spend your future on what you love." But the year he rose to fame, he drew a clear line between them himself:
"You're still young. You'll meet someone better someday."
From then on, the moon was no longer admired by just one evening primrose.
-
Later, in the pouring rain in Jiangcheng, Shu Li brought her childhood friend into the hallway of her apartment building.
Headlights split the curtain of rain. Cheng Fengzhi got out of the car, his shirt soaked through, a crescent-shaped scar faintly visible by his collarbone. He gripped the hand holding her umbrella so tightly he nearly snapped the red cord on her jade pendant.
"Make him leave."
"Big brother." Shu Li lifted her eyes slightly and twirled the umbrella handle with her fingertips. "Does an adult taking in a friend for the night really break your rules?"
The last thread of his self-control snapped. He leaned toward her, pressing a hand to the back of her neck and pulling her close.
"Rules?"
"Go upstairs, or come with me. You choose."
-
[I don't know how to describe this conflicted feeling. You're a piece of jade I treasured in my arms. I finally managed to warm you, only for the whole world to put you on display. You deserve to be seen, but I'm afraid that under the spotlight, you won't need me anymore. I'm afraid you'll become famous, but even more afraid you'll become too famous.]
On the first day she met Cheng Fengzhi, Shu Li wrote in her diary: "When the orange candy melted in my mouth, I tasted the Milky Way in summer."
Later, when Cheng Fengzhi became a top-tier star, an advertisement for the orange candy he endorsed filled the subway stations in the capital. He posted a screenshot of that diary entry online: [@Suli, the Milky Way is in your eyes when I look at you.]
Notes: 1. A six-year age-gap foster-family romance, from school days to city life. Both each other's first love, both virgins.
2. No real-life inspirations! The entertainment-industry setting is minor, and the male lead is not an idol, so he can date.
3. A slow-burn story about growing up, three parts bittersweet to seven parts sweet, happy ending.
Theme: All waters in the world will meet again.
