She Wants to Be My Boyfriend

A slightly dark Su story, childhood friends to lovers, gender-swap story.

The summer when we were seventeen, my childhood friend Jiang "moulted."

Those who moult change sex: girls become boys, and boys become girls.

I went to the hospital to visit Jiang after the moult. Long golden hair, blue eyes, lovely, well-proportioned features. She, no, he was still the same as ever, quiet to the point of being meek, locked away in a hospital room.

The moment I appeared, his eyes sparkled like the stars.

He raised his hand and pressed his palm to the glass, as if his fingers were touching mine through the wall.

My Jiang had changed from a "princess" into a "prince."

As if drawing courage from me, he held me tightly in his arms and asked again and again whether I would come to hate him and leave him because of this.

I told him I wouldn't.

Liang would never leave Jiang. We would keep our promise and remain best friends for life.

The summer when he was seventeen, Jiang moulted into a boy.

Little Li, who had grown up with him, pressed her palm against his through the glass, smiling at him as always, completely unaware.

Reason told him to wait. He shouldn't be so impatient.

But a devilish voice in his heart urged him on: Hurry up. You have every right to make her yours now.

He had no intention of keeping their promise and being just friends.

He wanted only Shen Shui Liang.
