Huai'an Beneath the Flowers [Ling Ling]

A captivating young dan performer, skilled in both martial and civil roles, opposite a dashing veteran sheng performer from a family of Kunqu artists

Xie Yuqiong lives with her parents in half of a Western-style house in the center of Shencheng.

Their home is small and cramped, but she isn't worried at all.

She knows she'll be rich someday,

because she's currently Shanghai's most celebrated leading dan performer.

It's only a matter of time before she can live like her mentor, in a grand house with a housekeeper.

The first time Wei Huaitan saw Xie Yuqiong, he was almost scorched by the heat radiating from her.

Her armor fluttered as she sang, and her Kunqu voice soared through the clouds, its clarity cutting through silk.

Wei Huaitan had studied opera his whole life and performed it his whole life, yet only now did he feel he was hearing a truly good performance for the first time.

Afterward, Wei Huaitan could think only of that graceful voice and lovely figure by his side.

After much deliberation, he called the Peking Opera troupe's general affairs office.

“For my Shanghai debut, how about I perform The Dragon Plays with the Phoenix with the actress who played Hu Sanniang today?”

“She hasn't even graduated from the Jing San Troupe!” the administrator exclaimed. “Never mind that she's not qualified to perform alongside you, how can you ask her to perform a romantic love scene?”

Wei Huaitan smiled. “Naturally, I'll teach her!”
