Everyone says Shen Huan is a promiscuous kept man in South City, too weak to lift a finger or carry a burden. His only redeeming qualities are that he doesn’t talk much and can take a pounding.
Su Xingyuan was famous for being a playboy, yet he kept Shen Huan by his side for three years, lavishing him with money and treating him to the best food and drink. He even brought him along to all sorts of public events.
Just when everyone thought Su Xingyuan had been won over, he suddenly sneered, “He’s just a plaything. You people really take him seriously?”
He treated Shen Huan well to his face, but behind closed doors he gave him away like the most worthless piece of merchandise.
A friend couldn’t stand it and tried to warn him. “You’re going too far. Aren’t you afraid he’ll turn on you?”
Su Xingyuan snuffed out his cigarette without a change in expression. “He’ll do anything for money, and he can’t leave me anyway. You haven’t seen how desperate he is for love.”
His heart began beating for Shen Huan, but he wouldn’t admit it, not until the day of the heavy snow, when Shen Huan left and never came back.
Only then did Su Xingyuan finally realize what he had lost.
Shen Huan was born unlucky. Abandoned as a child and plagued by serious illness, he went from one man’s bed to another just to stay alive.
He thought he would keep rotting away forever, until he met Su Xingyuan, who had returned from studying abroad.
That man treated him with sincerity and warmth, taught him how to live and how to write his name, and once told him that he deserved to be loved too.
The poor boy struggled to wipe away every shameful part of his past, shed his armor, and offered up the only pure thing he had: his heart.
When he heard that man’s sneering words, Shen Huan could only smile bitterly. “He really went to a lot of trouble for me.”
The day he left, South City saw its heaviest snowfall in a century. Standing at the crossroads, he seemed to see the man kneeling there, weeping hysterically in agony. “Shen Huan!! I’m begging you, please come back!!!”
In the biting wind, Shen Huan only smiled and kept walking without looking back.
