Yingzhao, Lord of the Underworld

Legend says that Yingzhao, the Ghost King of the Underworld, is a ten-thousand-year-old vengeful spirit. In the primordial age, when heaven and earth were still desolate, she never had a peaceful end in any of her lives. After death, she fought countless ghosts and finally attained the Great Dao.

As the ruler of the Underworld, she governs the three realms and controls vengeful spirits. She used ruthless methods to create the Eighteen Levels of Hell, all supposedly to satisfy her own selfish desires!

Others even say she loves eating children's brains, terrifying everyone so much that even ghosts fear being ruled by her.

The ghosts all hurried to refute the rumors: That's not true! We're doing just fine.

While people outside smeared Yingzhao's name, she was helping boil soup at Granny Meng's Hall.

When mortal couples used her to scare their children, she was helping revise the Book of Life and Death.

When the Immortal Realm slandered her as a murderer and cannibal, she cheerfully snapped a vicious ghost's head off with one hand.

Even someone as carefree and desireless as her had her troubles. Looking at the young man she'd rescued, she asked, "Lu Li, why aren't you happy?"

Lu Li sounded hurt. "You're wonderful in every way, Sister, but you don't love me."

When the Underworld was first established, everyone saw a green ghost flame following Yingzhao for tens of thousands of years, almost never leaving her side.

No one knew when the ghost flame disappeared, replaced by the handsome young man Lu Li, who was gentle and composed and always put the Underworld's ruler first.

Lu Li loved Yingzhao and was willing to serve at her side out of gratitude for saving his life.

By chance, he heard the rumors about the ghost flame, and his heart ached as he suddenly understood. He was only a replacement for that ghost flame. From beginning to end, he had been the only one who'd fallen in love.

In a single moment, he fell into darkness, and all his hopes turned to delusions.
