The Buddha's Chosen One Keeps Trying to Harm Me

The Hehuan Sect assigns its disciples a trial. Yuan Mei oversleeps, leaving her with the hell-level mission of winning over the Buddhist son of the Wanfo Sect.

Rumor has it that he is cold by nature and impossible to win over. Countless seductresses who tried to tempt him met their deaths beneath his Buddhist prayer beads.

Yuan Mei dares not disobey her sect's orders, so she can only grit her teeth and go. She plans to do the bare minimum, blow him a kiss, and run.

But the cold-blooded, heartless Buddhist son whom everyone knows sees her, and his eyes grow misty with tears.

Yuan Mei is terrified. When this Buddhist son looks so compassionate before killing someone, surely he's offering her a head start on her journey to the afterlife.

She turns and runs.

Shi Xuan watches her retreating figure, his heart heavy. It seems she has already forgotten him.

That winter, the cold was bone-deep. Two starving children, thin as sticks, huddled in a corner to keep warm. She stared at the door to the local squire's mansion and watched a monk begging for alms get politely ushered inside by the steward. Envy filled her face. "It's so easy for monks to get food. I want to become a monk too..."

That night, he came down with a high fever and was on the brink of death. She sold herself to a traveling opera troupe and took him to a clinic.

When he finally had the strength to get out of bed and went looking for her, the troupe had long since vanished.

He entered the monastery and became the monk she had longed for. He cultivated desperately and rose to the pinnacle among the Buddhas, all in the hope that one day she would look at him and recognize him.

Ever since, this mad monk has clung to her, spouting nonsense and even claiming she used to be a filthy little beggar.

What a joke. She grew up in the Hehuan Sect, surrounded by fine clothes and delicious food. When was she ever so destitute that she had to beg?

To escape his pursuit, Yuan Mei is forced to flee all over the world. At long last, she manages to lose him, only for him to find her again while she's happily cultivating with a man she picked up.

This time, his face turns green with rage, and he finally reveals his true nature, murderous aura spilling from him.

This Buddhist son really does want to kill her!
