The young tutor of the State of Li was sent on a mission to the native chieftains of southern Dian. Along the way, he picked up a woman named Si Mingyue. He cherished her dearly and kept her tucked away in a gilded cage.
One day, after a heavy rain, the young tutor finished teaching and hurried out of the Eastern Palace, eager to get home.
The Crown Prince had always been a respectful student, and he walked his teacher to the eaves.
There, he saw with his own eyes the woman who had come to deliver an umbrella slip intimately into his teacher's arms. The two walked off together beneath the falling rain.
The young Crown Prince's gaze grew increasingly intrigued and fervent.
