The Fortunate Performer [Republican Era]

(I'll gradually fill this in. Once the book is complete, I'll unlock all the chapters. Thank you, everyone.)

When Yao Yufeng was five, she nearly got sold to a brothel. Fortunately, Yang Chengyu rescued her, and she found a way to survive in the Xingchun Garden opera troupe.

Yang Chengyu was slender and tall, with an imposing air. Everyone in the troupe was afraid of him. Yao Yufeng wasn't. Instead, she thought he was the best person in the world.

Yang Chengyu gave her a name and taught her to read and write, but firmly refused to let her study dan roles under him.

That was fine. She could sing lao sheng roles instead. Little Feng was born to perform. In just a few years, she became famous throughout the city. Whenever she and Yang Chengyu performed A Playful Dragon and a Teasing Phoenix, Xingchun Garden had enough to eat and wear for the whole month.

Little Feng had grown up quite a bit. Yang Chengyu was older, but they were both at an appropriate age now. Without him, she wouldn't be where she was today.

So Little Feng resolved to repay her teacher. She didn't care what people said. She knew perfectly well that Wang Baochuan belonged to Xue Pinggui, and Li Fengjie belonged to the Zhengde Emperor. So why couldn't her teacher belong to her?

She wanted Yang Chengyu. She wanted her teacher.

1. This is not a gender-bender story. There is a large age gap, and all romantic feelings develop after both characters are adults.

2. Set in the Republican era, against the backdrop of the Peking opera world. Tragic ending.

3. Be warned: this is full of dramatic twists. The leads and supporting characters have tragic backgrounds and complicated relationships. Please think carefully before reading.

4. I accidentally started this project, so I'm using an old short story I once left unfinished to fill it in.

Theme: A drop of kindness should be repaid with a surging spring.
