In 2203, human technology has advanced by leaps and bounds. After a century of research, humanity developed a massive, high-powered drilling rig capable of digging deep beneath the surface. They named it "God's Hand" and launched the "3,000 Miles Underground" project. The resulting damage to Earth's gravity triggered extreme weather. During the excavation, they discovered a new kind of mineral crystal that had never been detected before. Its intense radiation could trigger genetic mutations, so it was classified as a top-tier protected resource and secured at a key scientific research facility. They named it S'ie.
Meanwhile, an alien phage suddenly attacked. Drawn to S'ie, it devoured life on Earth relentlessly over the next eight years. The alien phage devastated human society, and one power after another fell. Researchers in regions with large stores of S'ie formed a provisional government of their own and quickly established eleven sterile zones.
Eight years later, A Can, a second-year high school student living in Zone Eleven, despises "God's Hand" because of an accident in his childhood. He also refuses to join his school's fervent praise of the zone. He spends his days skipping school and giving up on himself, until one night he unexpectedly encounters a mysterious girl named Long being pursued.
Meeting Long changes Can's life forever. The incident reveals that he possesses a hidden power strong enough to change the world, and from then on he is drawn into a war between fanatical technology and human nature...
