When foreign tribes invaded from the north, the emperor was incompetent and corrupt, allowing the barbarians to slaughter and plunder across the fertile heartland. He oppressed the scholars and patriots of the Central Plains, leaving the people destitute and desperate.
General Helian joined forces with the Hulan clan, the imperial in-laws, and an army of Han soldiers to rise up and win a decisive victory. They stormed the capital, rescued the people from their suffering, and restored peace to the realm.
With the support of his followers, the foreign general Helian Nayi ascended the throne. The dynasty changed, the capital moved to Luoyang, and with the belief that all the peoples of the realm were one family, he named his dynasty Rong and ushered in an age of peace and prosperity. He made the daughter of First-Rank Duke Wang Yanzhao his empress, stationed Duke of Rong He Rong in Yangzhou, and Duke of Jing Zhao in Luoyang. The rest of the meritorious officials were ennobled one by one. Thus began a new dynasty that seemed to promise nothing but calm...
The realm was at peace, and there was much to rebuild. Every region prospered, and the nation developed steadily.
But the second Rong emperor, Emperor Yangjing, lived extravagantly and indulged in sensual pleasures. He conscripted great numbers of able-bodied men to build enormous entertainment complexes for the amusement of the imperial family and nobility. Soon, the people were once again plunged into misery.
As the Purple Star and the Greedy Wolf Star descended to earth, the tides of history shifted beneath the surface. Patriots rose up across the land. Could the realm change hands once more? Could imperial power return to the Han?...
