The Law of Resonance [Sentinel and Guide]

[Power Couple / Scheming, Stoic Sentinel vs. Cool, Stubborn Guide / Setting details in the author’s note of Chapter 1] Xia Ye has a secret. As a Dark Guide, one seen only once in a century, he has two spirit companions. His fierce snow leopard is invincible. During the entrance assessment, it took down every new student single-handedly, making Xia Ye famous throughout the Alliance Military Academy. Everyone says Xia Ye keeps to himself and is a lone wolf. Only Xia Ye knows that his true spirit companion is utterly harmless, a weakness he must never let anyone discover. * That is, until he runs into Chi Zhou at an underground fighting ring. The first Dark Sentinel in human history, Chi Zhou has never lost in decades. Just a look from his black dragon is enough to strike terror into countless hearts. Yet the black dragon bows its head before Xia Ye, asking to be touched. Chi Zhou looks relaxed. “Seems it really likes you.” Before Xia Ye can say a word, a little snow ferret slips out from behind him, scrambles nimbly onto Chi Zhou’s shoulder, and flops onto its fluffy back. Chi Zhou’s lips curl up. “Seems you like me, too.” Xia Ye: ... His weakness has been exposed. * At the Alliance’s latest matching exchange, two people who never take part in matching show up at the same time, leaving everyone utterly dumbfounded. Staring at the little snow ferret perched on the black dragon’s head, their friend is speechless for a long moment. “Th-this is your spirit companion?” Xia Ye’s face turns faintly red, but his voice is even cooler than his expression. “What are you staring at? Never seen a little animal before?” [A Reader’s Guide] ① The setting generally follows the Sentinel-Guide encyclopedia lore. ② Some elements are original to this story and will be explained as the plot unfolds. ③ Romance takes center stage, with careers on the side. Weibo: Jinjiang Shuying [My next book is available to save in my author’s collection! Thanks, my lovely readers!] What? You’re saying humans actually have supernatural abilities, but no Guide has awakened in the Sentinel Tower for nearly a century, so all the Sentinels are going crazy? What? You’re saying I’m the only Guide in the entire Sentinel Tower? What? You’re saying the whole world depends on me to save it? Are you kidding me? I’m just a good-for-nothing high school student! Cheng Ran, dressed in a loose school uniform, stands surrounded by the Sentinel Tower’s higher-ups, his fair cheeks drained of color. For some reason, he feels like a lab mouse. Supernatural abilities, awakenings, Sentinels and Guides: he doesn’t understand any of it! All he wants is to get into college in peace, find a well-paid, easy job close to home, and live happily with a kitten... “A well-paid, easy job close to home? That’s easy. Our Sentinel Tower is part of the civil service system, with a full range of benefits. You’ll get them as soon as you start!” “A kitten? Even easier! Our Sentinels have all kinds of spirit companions. Do you like leopards? Interested in African lions? Arctic wolves are great to cuddle, too!” Cheng Ran: “Didn’t you say my spirit companion is an orca? I can’t exactly play with all these land animals.” “Can’t play with land animals?” The man at the head of the table suddenly laughs, studying him with interest. “Then how about a mythical creature?” In an instant, flames rise into the sky, bathing the snow-white Sentinel Tower in red. A phoenix soars aloft, its wings blotting out the sky. Its overwhelming power compels everyone to bow before it. “Pleased to meet you. I’m Shen Rong, and this is my spirit companion.” Cheng Ran stares in shock. “Uh... It’s definitely impressive, but the way you’re acting, you must be close to going crazy, right?” Shen Rong nods. “Yeah, so I really need you. Hurry up and take me in.” Cheng Ran: “...” Cheng Ran: “Big brother, it’s the twenty-first century. Arranged marriages aren’t a thing anymore.” Then, during a mission, Cheng Ran can’t find his spirit companion in the middle of the night and ends up wandering into Shen Rong’s bedroom. The phoenix is hugging a plush toy, gleefully rolling around on the carpet. Cheng Ran takes a closer look, then turns to Shen Rong. “Could you keep your kid under control? That’s my spirit companion, not its toy!” Shen Rong looks innocent as he pulls Cheng Ran into his arms, too. “Baby, if the kid wants to play, let it have some fun, okay?” Cheng Ran’s earlobes turn red, his breathing unsteady. “...Why are you kissing me? Who said you could play with me, too...” * So powerful he’s practically asking to be punched vs. too lazy to care, so nothing bothers him. At heart, it’s a daddy-type, roguishly handsome dom and a carefree sub. * A modern Sentinel-Guide sweet romance, satisfying, indulgent, and gloriously over-the-top, with romance taking up at least 80%. Theme: Even when faced with adversity, we should keep striving for a better tomorrow!
