Before the Divorce, My Husband Lost His Memory

Cindy Xia Zhi is a struggling graduate of a British university, an actress scraping by in the lowest-tier production crews.

Her family is fairly well-off, but not wealthy enough to afford the social obligations of the upper circles.

To solve her family’s problems, she marries Mu Zheyuan, a physics PhD seven years her senior, cold by nature and interested only in his experiments.

Two years into their marriage,

he treats her with neither warmth nor hostility, never arguing or making a fuss, like a polite colleague.

She does everything she can to keep their marriage afloat, only to be met with deeper and deeper disappointment.

Then one day, she gently sets the divorce papers on the dining table. “Let’s end things here.”

The next day, the hospital calls.

“Mr. Mu has been in an accident. Right now... he only recognizes you.”

Cindy: “?”

After losing his memory, Mu Zheyuan’s personality changes completely.

He is no longer cold or distant.

Instead, he clings to her, protects her, and calls her “baby.”

One evening, they sit side by side watching TV.

Cindy points to her cup. “You used to pour me water.”

Mu Zheyuan immediately gets up to pour some.

She takes a sip and finds it cold. He frowns and replaces it with warm water.

“You used to drink warm water.”

Cindy stares at him. “You used to call me... ‘baby,’ too.”

His Adam’s apple shifts. He repeats softly, “Baby.”

In that moment, she suddenly feels a sting at the tip of her nose.

Later, half joking and half serious, she slips him the divorce papers from back then.

Mu Zheyuan is silent for a long time,

then suddenly tears the papers to pieces, bit by bit.

He corners her on the sofa, his voice hoarse in a way that seems unlike his old self:

“You said you’d stay with me for the rest of our lives.”

“That’s the one thing I remember most clearly.”
