Please Believe in Me

In her ten-year-old notebook, the handwriting was crooked and childish:

My birth was a stain on my mother's life. I never knew who my biological father was, until one day I saw his face on the news.

So my strange personality was inherited. The genes this man left me were impure, tainted.

But I want to become a thoroughly, absolutely good person.

I tried many things, but none of them could quiet the dark voices. The ambition in my nature simply couldn't be suppressed.

So I decided to make ambition the starting point of my quest to become a good person. Instead of being a good person, I could blur the distinction and tell myself I was saving those poor souls, place myself on a pedestal, and turn that label into a faith:

So, believe in me. I will help you and save you.

I'll buy a notebook called Faith and carefully write down all your names.

To outsiders, she's a model student in every way. People are always praising her for being kind and sincere, beautiful and humble. Even though she has a delinquent fake older brother, she's never once let her anger show. When the school board chairman's son threw a tennis ball at her and said her smile was fake, she only smiled and let it pass.

There's another student at school with a reputation for being just as perfect: the student council president. Though they're in the same class, the two have never spoken. But one day after school, that student pointed at her notebook and quietly asked, "Could you write my name in your notebook?"
