Records of Mountain Mysteries

Two hundred years ago, to bring an end to the conflicts, the three kingdoms of Beitang, Nanzhao, and Xiyue signed a pact. Zheshaan was to be their border, and they would not invade one another.

From then on, refugees, convicted murderers, officials fleeing trouble, opportunistic merchants, and monks who had renounced the world came in an endless stream.

Stretching for a thousand miles, Zheshaan became a lawless no-man's-land, a place of mixed company where the strong ruled.

Two hundred years later, a coup shook Beitang. Chancellor Song Pi was framed by political rivals, and his family was wiped out. The Song family's youngest daughter vanished without a trace, and turmoil began to engulf Beitang.

Nanzhao and Xiyue stirred restlessly. Zheshaan was in danger.

One day, two more people arrived in Zheshaan: a frail young man and a tall, imposing swordsman.

Mountain spirits devoured people, a jade merchant was beheaded, a flower monk drank blood, and a corrupt official fell from a cliff. Zheshaan remained utterly lawless beneath a century-old veil of fog.

Years later, Nanzhao and Xiyue mustered troops to attack Beitang, only to be ambushed in Zheshaan by a surprise force.

After suffering heavy casualties, they were horrified to discover that, at some point, every last one of the murderous outlaws of Zheshaan had disappeared.

Only Zheshaan's hidden veins remained, their shade extending for a thousand miles, with the people living in peace.

A guide for readers:

1. A seemingly delicate but truly ruthless heroine vs. a general who rose to fame young, grew weary of the world, and went into seclusion

2. Primarily mystery and investigation, with political intrigue as a secondary focus and romance after that

3. The setting is entirely fictional, so please don't scrutinize it for historical accuracy

P.S. This story updates according to the rankings. If it's not ranked, it will update every other day. I will never abandon it. Thank you for adding it to your collection

Our heroine has many secret identities, and may take on a new identity whenever she arrives somewhere, sometimes as a man and sometimes as a woman. Stay cautious, because staying alive is what matters most
