The Fragrant Warmth of the Painted Hall

Fuyu is the niece of Zuo Lin, a vanguard under Prince Dingxi. Zuo Lin and Prince Dingxi, Meng Zhaotang, were brothers who had survived countless battles together. Later, Zuo Lin took an arrow meant for Meng Zhaotang and was left with little time to live. On his deathbed, he entrusted his niece to Meng Zhaotang, asking him to look after her. Meng Zhaotang agreed.

After the war ended, Meng Zhaotang went to bring Fuyu to his manor. She was only thirteen, short and frail, but her delicate features already hinted at a beauty that could topple kingdoms.

Meng Zhaotang was only twenty at the time, so it would hardly do for him to act as Fuyu's father. Instead, he had little Fuyu call him "Cousin."

Meng Zhaotang vowed to take good care of her and find her a good husband when she grew up.

By the time Fuyu turned fifteen, she had blossomed into a beauty, with a youthful face, delicate features, and a fragrance sweeter than orchids. Her natural scent was intoxicating.

As they spent day after day together, Fuyu gradually fell for Meng Zhaotang. She gathered her courage and confessed to him, but he said he thought of her only as a younger sister.

After being rejected again and again, Fuyu finally lost hope and turned to the gentle heir of the Duke of Ning.

One day, Meng Zhaotang saw the heir of the Duke of Ning place a gold hairpin in Fuyu's hair. She smiled shyly, and he crushed the cup in his hand to powder.

At last, Fuyu told him she was going to marry the heir of the Duke of Ning.

She thought the man would gladly agree. Instead, he seized her chin and said roughly, "If he tries to marry you, I'll kill him!" Then he pressed a scorching kiss to her lips.
