[Runyu] Shadow

Ziqiong was Linxiu's adopted daughter, with a graceful bearing, and the Water Deity's eldest daughter in name only.

Linxiu often took Ziqiong down to the mortal realm to travel and see all its sights.

Later, Tuyao brought someone back, and Ziqiong often went to visit him.

Everyone said the Night Deity and the Water Deity's eldest daughter were betrothed. Did that mean she would one day become the Night Deity's wife?

She looked at Runyu with shining eyes.

Runyu smiled and said, "Of course. One day, Ziqiong will be my wife."

But good times didn't last. Jinmi appeared. Although Jinmi was younger than her, she was the Water Deity's daughter. So naturally, the betrothal belonged to Jinmi.

After that, Ziqiong stopped going to see Runyu.

Even when Jinmi wanted to be her friend, she refused.

Jinmi hadn't done anything wrong. She shouldn't take her anger out on her. But did that mean she was in the wrong?

She suddenly remembered someone once saying, "Ziqiong, you really remind me of someone."

Who do I remind you of?

She went to ask her mother, who fell silent for a long time before saying, "The Flower Deity, Zifen."

Then she understood why her father's gaze at her was so strange, and why the Heavenly Emperor always spoke in riddles.

How ridiculous. She was nothing but a shadow.

After Ziqiong destroyed the Water Deity's primordial spirit and ambushed Xufeng, she smiled at Jinmi's disbelieving expression.

"Jinmi, I'm not anyone's shadow. Not your mother's, and certainly not yours."

"I won't kill you. I want to see whether you can still be happy with Xufeng while carrying all these sins."

If there's another life, let me be an ordinary person. That's what Ziqiong thought as she jumped from Linyuan Terrace.
